There are two standard chickens, one hen and one rooster. We haven't seen any "standard" eggs that we can tell. The other eight are Bantum chickens, quite a bit smaller. The Bantum rooster is the size of a coffee pot, but absolutely fearless!

Sally and Scout are the goats. Scout is the white one. She's got quite a personality and she's pickier about what she'll eat than Sally. The goats are funny, they are kind of like dogs with attitude. They have pen, but they like to get out and exercise a bit every few days. We haven't let Simon out to play with them yet. We've heard they like to head-butt dogs and could break a rib (although they haven't, yet). Simon really wants to play with them! The chickens are pretty self contained. They have an outside pen, but we have to put them up at night to keep them safe from coyotes and other dogs. Same with the goats.

Trey (the friend two offices down that we are house-sitting for) didn't really live here in the farmhouse full time. He has another house in Salida in a subdivision, near the golf course (I didn't know Salida had a golf course). But he wanted some chickens and goats, so when his parents bought this farmhouse as an investment, he used the barn and corrals for his critters. He's stayed there a few nights, and it's partially furnished, but mostly with furniture that was left by the previous owners. It has the most wonderful views of the mountains!

We moved into the farmhouse a few weeks ago. At first, we had problems with all sorts of creepy noises and knocking at 3am. We joked about the ghosts in the farmhouse and the water heater that sounds like the Indian war drums my grandmother used to talk about hearing when she was a little girl. I announced to the ghosts one morning, "Mr Ghost, I know you feel a need to be knocking on walls and such, but could you please do it at a more reasonable hour, say 6 or 7 in the morning. We'd really appreciate it." We haven't heard any knocking since. In reality, I think since we are in the house moving around, all the settling has occurred and that's what all the noises were. That's what I like to think, anyway. Did I mention there's a room in the farmhouse about 8 ft by 10 ft that has no way in? No doors or windows, not sure what is in there. Creepy, huh?

Andrew and I need another car. We found a 2005 Subaru in Breckenridge listed in Craigslist.com that an individual was selling. Just under 13,000 miles! We took Wednesday to drive over and get it. We love Baby Blue (although Andrew thinks she needs a tougher name!) Happy Valentine's Day!
